Ircel Harrison announced his retirement as coordinator of TCBF as of December 31, 2008. The staff and coordinating council of TCBF decided to rename the TCBF Theological Scholarship in his name. Ircel has been a strong supporter of theological education in Tennessee CBF life. He was instrumental in establishing the Murfreesboro, Tennessee teaching site of Central Baptist Theological Seminary. In addition, he has supported women in ministry and encouraged opportunities for theological education for them.

 

An endowment fund for granting theological scholarships was established with the CBF Foundation in 2000. The fund has grown from a $30,000 initial investment of TCBF's resources to a current market value of approximately $45,000. Tennessee CBF grants at least one $1,000 theological scholarship off the interest this endowment earns during the year. TCBF has granted 13 scholarships to date. With an increase in the endowment, TCBF should be abe to offer more scholarships or increase the value of the scholarships offered.
